ORBITGEAR W110-J MK2 JACKET: REVIEW

FOREWORD

I had the pleasure of reviewing ORBITGear products before and I have to say I really like this small yet mighty Indonesian brand.

After reviewing mainly the bags (check out my review for the R101 backpack and the S400 sling) I am now excited to try their apparel, specifically a low-key yet highly functional techwear jacket with a somewhat unfriendly name - W110-J MK2 Hunter Jacket.

Here’s what I have to say after using the jacket for nearly 2 months.

WHO IT SUITS

  • Big fans of techwear would appreciate the great combo of features and style for a reasonable price

  • Anyone already invested in the ORBITGear ecosystem would seamlessly integrate this jacket with other pieces from the brand

  • Those who love versatility and modularity would appreciate the removable hood, thoughtful organization, and overall great build of the jacket

WHO IT DOESN’T

  • Those looking for a more low-key look might find the abundance of pockets and technical aesthetics of this techwear jacket a bit much

  • Anyone who seeks instant gratification of buying something and getting it ASAP would probably find it difficult to wait for the next drop

ABOUT THE PRODUCT

* PRICE:  $248

* COLOR OPTIONS: Black, Olive

* COMPOSITION: elecorSHILED 3L WPB 100% PES+ePTFE membrane + PA Mesh /YKK Zipper System / PES Webbing / 6.6 PA Bonded Thread

A quick disclaimer, the jacket is size Medium and it was a bit snug on me (176 cm, 95 kg)  so I asked my friend Sergey to model for the shoot since his height of 177 cm and weight of 67 kg were more fitting for this particular item.

WHAT’S HOT

  • The unmistakable techwear aesthetics is not just the looks, the W110-J is very thoughtfully considered to be both stunning to look at and also pretty functional to use in everyday life.

  • There are a total of 7 pockets that help you keep organized and allow you to leave the sling or a small bag behind, relying only on the pockets of the jacket. Your phone, wallet, keys, a spare mask, and some other bits and pieces can be easily stored as long as it’s nothing bulky.

  • The overall build and choice of materials are superb. The signature elecorSHILED fabric used as a main material of the jacket is very similar to Gore-Tex in weather-resistant properties yet looks softer and more pleasant to wear. The YKK Aquaguard zippers complement the look of the jacket quite well and also help protect the contents of your pockets.

  • I loved having a strap on the inside of the jacket to just sling it across my body if the weather got hot.

  • A small detail, but the velcro patch on the shoulder is an excellent addition to help customize and personalize the jacket

  • The removable hood and the ability to close the jacket with the button snaps instead of zipping it up are great additions to allow more versatility of the jacket both in terms of look and functionality.

WHAT’S NOT

  • As with most of the ORBITGear products the jacket is not readily available since it’s built in small batches over the course of the year. It is a bummer if you love it and want to order immediately.

VERDICT

If you are a fan of techwear or just functional jackets ORBITGear should be on your radar. The W110-J proved to be a great addition for Spring, Autumn, or Summer assuming you layer thoughtfully for colder weather.

The jacket is high quality, has a distinct look, and is versatile enough to replace multiple garments in your wardrobe. What else could one wish for? Perhaps more immediate availability.

Meanwhile, I recommend subscribing to the ORBITGear mailing list and Instagram to keep track of the occasional drops.
